Lucie Gauthiot - France

How does one convey emotions within the confines of a structured and limiting framework?

The essence of Lucie’s artistic work revolves around textured mulberry paper sourced from Nepal, handcrafted with irregular squares that serve as both a space for expression and a framework. As she explores colors and shapes on this particular paper, she questions the limits of its restrictive nature: is it an ally or an entity to be avoided? Should its presence be softened or intensified in order to facilitate the expression of emotions?

Lucie’s creative process is spontaneous and responds to stimuli of her daily life, be it a landscape, an object, a sound, or words from a novel. Each of these encounters offers a path to explore, leading to works that act as histological sections of the emotions experienced along the way. Lucie’s exploration within the confines of her chosen medium’s limiting nature reflects a modern struggle: how to carve out space for emotions in a rationalized world that often urges their suppression, despite their continuous influence on our daily choices and movements?

Lucie studied at École Supérieure d'Art et de Design - (Toulon, France) and is a graduate in political science. Painting and photography have always been integral to expressing her observations and analyses. Her work has been featured in group exhibitions in Paris and Copenhagen.
